Barsch Tropicals, founded by the dynamic duo Chantakarn and Jimmy Barsch, is a blossoming business in the world of garden supplies. Drawing inspiration from his childhood spent laboring in the family vegetable garden, Jimmy’s passion for plants flourished during his formative years. A pivotal friendship with Sean Hogan during junior high and high school deepened his horticultural knowledge through numerous shared classes.
While Sean ventured into landscape design and eventually established Cistus Nursery in Portland, Oregon, Jimmy pursued studies in economics and business. After earning his MBA, he ventured to Hawaii to explore a career in mortgage banking, temporarily setting aside his green thumb. However, the dormant period ended when Jimmy returned to Sacramento in 1997 with his new bride, Chantakarn, whose talents in cooking complemented his love for gardening surprisingly well.
With an array of over 50 fruit trees and a flourishing vegetable garden, the couple’s culinary endeavors thrived. Yet, Chantakarn longed for additional ingredients like lemongrass, ginger, and fresh chili pepper year-round, prompting Jimmy and his father to construct a greenhouse. This project soon grew beyond their expectations, reflecting the boundless potential and creativity that Barsch Tropicals brings to the realm of garden supplies.
